Park Frankendael

A manor house, allotment gardens and a classic garden layout give this Watergraafsmeer park its character, alongside wooded paths, a reedy bird pond, open picnic lawns and a small dog park.

The story

Park Frankendael is a neighbourhood park in the Watergraafsmeer, laid out around a manor house with a restaurant and a classic garden design. Bridges form narrow entrances on both sides, and ponds run through the grounds, with reeds, a water bird pool and benches for watching the ducks. After dark, city lights reflect on the water. Beyond a wide open lawn for picnics and sunbathing, wooded and hidden paths wind toward the allotment gardens at the back, which make for a pleasant stroll. Children have a playground, watched over by a crane nesting on top of a disused chimney, and a school garden project where primary pupils grow their own plants. There is also a small dog park, plenty of shade alongside sunny spots, and a stall for drinks and snacks.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • A food market is held in the park on the last Sunday of each month.
  • Weekend events sometimes fill the park with stalls for shopping, eating and drinking, accompanied by music.
  • The winding paths make it easy to get lost, so allow time to reach the allotment gardens at the back.
