BIMHUIS

Amsterdam's stage for adventurous jazz and improvised music since 1974, BIMHUIS hosts more than 250 concerts a year in a cantilevered hall overlooking the docks and water near Central Station.

The story

The club occupies the upper floor of the Muziekgebouw, a building by the water designed by the Danish firm 3XN. Its concert hall juts out from the glass-fronted structure, an intimate room known for its acoustics, with comfortable seating and balcony tables that give an overview of the stage. The café, bar and terrace look out over the waterways and Central Station, and catch the sunset. The programme ranges from American headliners and Latin jazz to an Impro Focus series and musical family performances. On Tuesday nights a jam session in the café brings together international, young and established players, with local musicians opening before the stage is thrown open to anyone. Beyond the concerts, BIMHUIS Productions develops new ensembles and compositions, releasing albums on BIMHUIS Records.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • The Tuesday night jam session is free, with locals playing first before anyone can take the stage to improvise.
  • There is a restaurant for dining before the concert; reserve ahead or arrive early if you want to eat.
  • Balcony tables give a good overview of the stage, and the bar's views at sunset suit an interval drink.
