Dauphine Orleans Hotel
Once a private home and later a notorious bordello, this Creole cottage-style French Quarter hotel spreads across three buildings with brick courtyards, a saltwater pool and a haunted bar called May Baily's Place.
The story
Dating from the 1800s and recognised as a New Orleans historic landmark, the hotel divides its rooms between the Main House, the Carriage House and the Hermann House. The last, across Dauphine Street, was once owned by a wealthy merchant. Some Main House rooms have balconies overlooking the street or the courtyard pool, though the historic structure means they cannot be used, while Carriage House and Hermann House rooms open onto semi-private courtyards. May Baily's Place recalls one of the city's first and most notorious bordellos of the mid-to-late 19th century, now dressed in burlesque art and rich fabrics and known for its haunted lore. Cocktails from the bar can be carried out to the Southern porches, and a breakfast buffet is served there each morning. The courtyards and Creole cottage-style reception halls host weddings of up to 75 guests.
