La Réserve Firenze began with a family move. Olivia and Grégory Marciano, a Parisian couple who settled in Florence in 2019, bought a 15th-century palazzo in the Oltrarno that had been turned into student housing, then spent four years restoring it. Michel Reybier's La Réserve Hotels & Private Homes came on board, and this is the brand's first address in Italy: just six apartments, each meant to feel like a private Florentine home with a hotel's service behind it.

The French duo Gilles & Boissier kept a light hand, restoring coffered ceilings, frescoes and carved woodwork, and adding quiet modern furniture, cotto floors and Siena travertine in the bathrooms. Tapestries, antiques and art from the Marcianos' own collection give each apartment its character. They range from one to three bedrooms, all with full kitchens; the three-bedroom duplex has a rooftop terrace looking towards Santo Spirito and Palazzo Pitti.

Downstairs there's a lounge, a library on Italy, art and design, a billiard room, a gym, a mix-your-own bar and a courtyard with a lion's-head fountain. A housekeeper cooks breakfast at the hour you choose; other meals can come from nearby Trattoria Cammillo or a private chef.

Opening this October, it suits families or friends who'd rather live in Florence for a while than just pass through.
