Fauna, the Mediterranean restaurant inside Kimpton Vividora Barcelona, is meant to feel like the home of a dear friend, and its new menu leans into that idea. It is the first written entirely by executive chef Marcel López, and it is built around sharing: plates go in the middle of the table and get passed from hand to hand, with provenance and the pleasure of gathering at the heart of it.

The cooking takes familiar Catalan and Mediterranean flavours and runs them through López's own style. There is free-range chicken with poultry reduction, orange and caramelised pine nuts; grilled Iberian pork pluma with charred green pepper and ham; and red mullet from the Catalan coast with a red prawn suquet. Smaller plates include patatas bravas with sweet potato aioli and black garlic cream, and Cantabrian anchovies with toasted brioche and smoked butter. A baked rice with red prawn carpaccio and crispy prawn legs is made for the table.

For a wider sweep of Spanish produce, VIVI's Grand Sharing Board gathers León cecina, acorn-fed Iberian ham, Mató cheese, breads and preserves, while the cheese list favours small producers from Girona, Osona, Ávila, Castellón and Asturias. There are also two set routes: a six-course Tradition Menu and an eight-course Fauna Menu with a sommelier's wine pairing for each course.

Best booked with a group: this is food that rewards a crowded table.
