Borough Market's Roast to open a second restaurant at Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch
The long-running British restaurant heads east with a 135-cover, conservatory-style dining room inspired by Shoreditch's horticultural past.
Roast has spent more than two decades at Borough Market championing seasonal British produce, and it is now preparing a second London restaurant inside Virgin Hotels London-Shoreditch. Rather than copy the original, the new Roast Shoreditch takes its cue from the neighbourhood, specifically a horticultural history that few people know about and its long tie to the nearby Columbia Road Flower Market.
London agency 3Stories has imagined the room as a Victorian-style urban conservatory, with decorative ironwork, botanical details and layered planting. Timber, marble, brass and antique mirrors bring across some of the warmth of the Borough Market dining room. The 135-cover space takes in a main restaurant and bar, a bright orangery and a chef's table. The studio has also tweaked the branding, adding a Harlequin emblem as a nod to Curtain Road and The Curtain, the Elizabethan playhouse that gave the street its name.
The menu runs all day, from breakfast and brunch through long lunches, afternoon tea and dinner, with the signature Sunday roast kept firmly in place. Dishes will change with the seasons and rely on trusted farmers, growers and artisan suppliers, alongside a wine list and cocktails.
This is an announcement and the article gives no opening date, so check before planning a Sunday lunch.
