Western Sydney International Airport

Western Sydney International, also called Nancy-Bird Walton Airport, is Sydney's new airport at Luddenham, with an open, light-filled terminal and flights to Australian, New Zealand, Asian and Pacific cities.

The story

The airport carries the name of Nancy-Bird Walton and recognises the Cabrogal as the first people of the land it stands on. Inside, the terminal is spacious and logically laid out. Its open design lets in plenty of light, there are seats and amenities throughout, and the food hall and shops sit together in a central area. The building relies heavily on technology. Bag drop is automated, and there are no airline-specific customer service counters, a departure from how most airports work. Air traffic control is managed remotely with computer assistance from a site a short distance away rather than from a tower on the premises. Routes run to destinations across Australia, New Zealand, Asia and the Pacific, giving Greater Western Sydney its own gateway to the region.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Bag drop is fully automated and there are no airline service counters, so have your e-tickets ready.
  • Book Savers parking online before you travel rather than turning up without a booking.
  • The walk from the car park to the terminal is long and only partly covered, so allow extra time in wet weather.
