Seafood market, Tourist attraction

Sydney Fish Market
Double the size of its predecessor, the new Sydney Fish Market sits on Blackwattle Bay under a striking roof, packing seafood counters, restaurants, specialty shops and a cooking school into one waterfront building.
The story
Inside, it is easy to lose an hour among the lobster tanks and prawn displays, watching staff prepare fish, some of them huge. You can buy salmon, octopus or prawns to cook at home, or eat on site: sashimi, Sydney rock oysters, fish and chips, mixed seafood boxes, or live lobster picked from the tank and cooked with ginger and shallot. Beyond seafood there is fresh fruit, a flower shop and Lüneburger German Bakery for coffee. Outside, shaded seating and stairs face the water, with views back to the old market and the bridge, and heaters once dusk falls. Seafood Educators lead behind-the-scenes tours covering the auction and the industry, including a Sunset on the Wharf tour, while Sydney Seafood School runs hands-on classes, demos and tastings.
Good to know
TAGGG AI- ✦Go early to see the fresh seafood before the crowds, as the market is very busy whatever the day.
- ✦Guard your food when eating outside, because determined seagulls will try to snatch fish and chips or sashimi.
- ✦Walk past all the stalls before buying, since many counters sell similar seafood and the choice is vast.
