Restaurateurs Mikkel Egelund and Morten Kaltoft have taken a 1920s modernist building clad in green marble, a short walk from Copenhagen's Round Tower, and turned it into Casino dal 2026: a deli, bar, restaurant and courtyard garden under one roof. Space Copenhagen designed the 480-square-metre interior as a run of connected spaces, each with its own character, rather than one big dining room.

Mornings start at Casino Deli, modelled on an Italian roadside café, with espresso, cornetti and freshly pressed juice. A ten-metre bar leads into the restaurant, where the open kitchen sits beside a 12-metre counter of seasonal produce in large earthenware bowls. Raw concrete floors and steel-framed glazing meet white tiles, dark mahogany and Carrara marble, softened by embroidered ceramic pendants, sheer curtains and Hans J. Wegner chairs made by HAY. The eye goes straight to Tal R's mural: a deep-purple cat moving through oversized, flower-like trees, painted over gold leaf on the concrete wall. Space Copenhagen co-founder Signe Bindslev Henriksen says they didn't want it to feel "too resolved or too designed".

Out in the 340-square-metre courtyard, a 200-square-metre pavilion opens almost fully in warm weather and closes into a heated orangery in winter, framed by evergreens and changing seasonal flowers. Worth remembering for anything from a morning coffee to a long dinner in the old centre.
