A New York suite with Central Park in mind
JW Marriott Essex House’s redesigned Promenade Suite looks to Central Park, Art Deco history and the city’s cultural life.
JW Marriott Essex House has reworked its Promenade Suite with Wimberly Interiors, turning the 38th-floor accommodation into a more pointed tribute to New York. The design takes its cue from The Promenade in Central Park, as well as the hotel’s Art Deco setting and nearby cultural landmarks, with the skyline and park made part of the scheme through wide views over Central Park, the East River and the Hudson.
Inside, the 1,390-square-foot layout is organised around a large parlour, open kitchen and dining area, with two bedrooms running directly off the main living spaces. The palette shifts between merlot, aubergine and green, softened by park-inspired tones, while warm woods, burnished metals, geometric details and textured wallcoverings nod to the building’s Deco past. Art selected by Ryan Art Advisory includes work by New York-based Scott VanderVoort and Brooklyn-based Tess Michalik.
There is some useful flexibility here too: adjoining rooms can expand the suite into a three- or four-bedroom setup across the 38th floor. The primary bathroom adds a soaking tub, dressing area and separate shower, while the additional rooms move into quieter neutrals, brown leather and cooler blues. One to note if you like your hotel design tied closely to its setting, rather than floating free of it.
