Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur, an all-suite hotel in Bukit Bintang
Hilton's first Waldorf Astoria in Malaysia has 268 suites, an astrolabe-inspired clock and art chosen with the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.
Waldorf Astoria has arrived in Malaysia with an all-suite hotel in Kuala Lumpur's Bukit Bintang Golden Triangle. The idea is a residential feel, with 268 suites, and a sense of place drawn from the city's own heritage. Much of that comes through a partnership with the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia, which helped shape the art collection, from a huge 19th-century painting of Qajar princes in the Grand Lobby to works by Malaysian artists throughout.
The detail you'd notice first is the brand's signature clock, reimagined here in bronze and illuminated glass after the geometry of historic Islamic astrolabes in the museum's collection, with a hint of Art Deco. It stands at the entrance to Peacock Alley, a tall room of stone-clad columns and Songket-inspired textiles.
Deboss Collective designed the suites with natural stone, warm timber, woven textiles and joinery that nods to traditional Malay marquetry. They start at 80 square metres and run up to the 745-square-metre Waldorf Astoria Suite, all with floor-to-ceiling skyline views and in-room fitness kits. There's also a two-floor spa covering 2,275 square metres and a ballroom for up to 2,500.
The piece reads like Hilton's launch announcement, so expect polish. Worth a look for anyone who'd also make time for the Islamic Arts Museum while in town.
