Waldorf Astoria Kuala Lumpur
Waldorf Astoria's Malaysian debut is an all-suite hotel of 268 suites on the former site of the Hotel Istana, with dining from Jean-Georges Vongerichten and Garima Arora and an art collection curated with the Islamic Arts Museum Malaysia.
The story
Spread across two towers in the Golden Triangle, the hotel puts its suites in the West Tower and most of its restaurants and bars in the East. Suites run from 80-square-metre one-bedrooms to the 745-square-metre Waldorf Astoria Suite, designed by Deboss Collective with natural stone, warm timber and joinery inspired by traditional Malay marquetry. A 19th-century painting of Qajar princes hangs in the Grand Lobby. The brand's signature clock here takes its geometry from historic Islamic astrolabes, rendered in bronze and illuminated glass at the entrance to Peacock Alley, a lounge of stone-clad columns and Songket-inspired textiles that shifts from daytime to evening. Breakfast is at The Istana, Yaari serves Garima Arora's Indian cooking, and Jean-Georges Vongerichten is behind JG KL, abc kitchens KL and The Bar by JG. The spa spans two floors.
