InterContinental Taipei has opened at the heart of the Taipei Dome complex in Xinyi District. It is the second InterContinental that IHG has developed with Farglory Group, after InterContinental Kaohsiung, and it arrives as the brand marks its 80th anniversary, billed as its flagship in Taiwan. The guiding idea, "In Taipei, For Taipei", is meant to root the hotel in the city's architecture, culture and collective memory, from an installation in the lobby to musical motifs worked into the event spaces.

There are 347 rooms. Classic Rooms start at about 38 square metres, and some frame views of Taipei 101. Residential-style suites begin at around 76 square metres and come with a full kitchen, a dining area and in-suite laundry. Seven dining concepts include restaurants led by chef Akira Back, and there is also an indoor pool, a fitness centre, Club InterContinental and a range of event spaces.

General manager Robbert Manussen says he wants it to feel like a hotel that "belongs to Taipei": a way into the city for visitors, and somewhere locals can find new ways to enjoy their home. The details come from the opening announcement, so check which restaurants are up and running before you book. It is worth noting for business trips, or for anyone who wants a Xinyi base within sight of Taipei 101.
