Spagnulo & Partners renovates the interiors of the Milan Marriott Hotel
A Milan studio reworks all 317 rooms, public areas and event spaces of the city's long-standing Marriott around a recurring grid.
The Milan Marriott Hotel, described as historic and long tied to the city, has had a top-to-bottom interior overhaul by Spagnulo & Partners, a local architecture and interiors studio run by Federico Spagnulo, Alessandra Carbone and Andrea Spagnulo. The brief covered everything: 317 guest rooms, the public areas and the event spaces, with the aim of a contemporary look that still nods to the building's past.
The thread running through it all is a grid. It first appears as full-height shelving that organises the public spaces, then shrinks and softens into a pattern on handwoven rugs and textiles. Downstairs, the communal areas are laid out as a sequence of more open and more intimate corners, each defined by bespoke furniture, with wood brought in to warm up the geometry. The palette is mostly neutral, lifted by colour from upholstered pieces and rugs.
Upstairs, the rooms favour clean lines, natural finishes and contemporary furniture, planned around comfort and practicality for international travellers. The studio also handled the lighting and furnishings throughout.
The piece reads like a project announcement and gives no prices or booking details, so check the hotel directly. Worth noting if you need a large, well-equipped base in Milan with a little more design thought than usual.
