A River North reset at The Rivvy
A former Hotel 55 address reopens in Chicago as a 297-room Marriott Tribute Portfolio hotel with Lure Fishbar downstairs.
The Rivvy has opened in Chicago’s River North, taking over the former Hotel 55 site and recasting it as a 297-room boutique hotel within Marriott’s Tribute Portfolio. The idea, at least from this press release, is to pair the reach of a big loyalty brand with a more independent feel, drawing on the neighbourhood outside: restaurants, galleries, nightlife and architecture all within a short walk of the front door.
Inside, the hotel says its public spaces have been refreshed with layered artwork, residential-style furniture and plenty of places to lounge, work and meet. Guest rooms and suites are described as airy and contemporary, with neutral tones, clean-lined furnishings, lounge and work areas, plush bedding and Salt & Stone bath amenities. There is also a modern fitness centre, plus more than 8,000 square feet of event space spread across eight rooms for meetings, weddings and larger gatherings.
The practical draw is the address. It is at 55 E. Ontario Street, steps from Michigan Avenue, near the Chicago Riverwalk and less than a five-minute walk from Grand station on the Red Line. On the ground floor, Lure Fishbar remains the hotel’s main restaurant, with seafood, a raw bar, steaks and cocktails. Worth a look if you want a central Chicago base and like having an established restaurant in the building.
