Focacha is a speakeasy that starts life as a sandwich shop. From the street on Carrer Tuset you see a traditional focacceria front, designed by Pichy Glass. Then you step through a working refrigerator door into a bar that tips its hat to Barcelona's 'gauche divine', the intellectual set of the 1960s and 70s, and to Oriol Regàs, who founded the old Bocaccio club. Designer Isern Serra made it for Grupo La Confitería.

The first room borrows from Verner Panton's 1968 Visiona installation. Carpet runs over the floor, walls and ceiling, which softens the sound. At its centre is a curved, mirror-polished stainless-steel bar, ringed by seven seats shading from yellow through crimson to deep blue. Curved niches in the walls hold the bottles and low, tucked-away booths, all lit by GUBI Multi-Lite pendants.

A round opening leads into the DJ lounge under a smooth plaster dome. Hidden lights shift colour and warmth with the tempo of the music, and period pieces fill the room, including Panthella floor lamps, Flowerpot pendants and a Tacchini Dana lamp at the centre.

This piece comes from the designer's own submission to designboom and gives no hours or menu, so check Focacha's social channels before you go. It's worth the trip for anyone who loves 1960s design.
