The Onassis Foundation is turning part of Matala Arcade, a historic complex on Patission Boulevard, into Six Rings: a two-storey house for fashion, art and independent Athenian businesses. It is led by the Foundation's artistic director, Afroditi Panagiotakou, and its head of fashion, Stavros Karelis. Panagiotakou insists it is "not just a shop" but a hive for content and chance encounters. The name nods to Aristotle Onassis's idea of adding a sixth ring to the Olympic symbol for Olympic Airways, and British artist Tim Etchells has turned that into a neon facade and logo.

Inside, Greek architect and scenographer Loukas Bakas has designed the rooms as a contemporary home, playing building and unbuilding against each other. The racks hold Yohji Yamamoto's first Athens shop-in-shop, an adidas space with Y-3 and designer collaborations, and labels from Martine Rose to Stüssy, alongside Greek names such as IT'S A SHIRT and Yiorgos Eleftheriades. Hyper Hypo bookshop and Kopria flower shop move in too, with works from the Onassis Collection, workshops and a programme for emerging Greek designers.

Six Rings opens in December 2026. An all-day spot from the Wine is Fine team is planned for the arcade, and the Petridis Collection, a vast record archive with listening rooms, follows upstairs later in 2027. Worth a look for anyone curious about Athens's creative scene.
