Peace + Chaos fashion boutique in Thessaloniki, split into calm and loud zones
Saint of Athens and Manos Kypritidis give a fashion brand's flagship two personalities: serene neutral rooms and backstage-style, high-contrast corners.
Peace + Chaos is a fashion brand built around a split personality, and its flagship boutique in Thessaloniki takes the name literally. The creative agency Saint of Athens worked with designer Manos Kypritidis, who also handled the architectural works, to turn that duality into a floor plan. The idea is that the shop should be more than a neutral backdrop for clothes. It should act out the tension between discipline and disruption that runs through making fashion.
So the interior is divided into two kinds of space. The 'peace' zones are soft and neutral, with natural materials, clean linear geometry, plenty of empty space and diffused light, meant to suggest the calm where an idea begins. The 'chaos' zones take their cue from backstage and the rush of the fashion calendar: high-contrast colour, layered textures, odd material pairings, fragmented shapes, asymmetrical fixtures and lighting that moves. Bold graphic patterns sit against these louder backdrops, while sharp contemporary surfaces are set against softer natural ones.
The article doesn't give an address, so look it up before you go. It's worth a detour if you like retail design with a clear idea behind it, and seeing how one shop can hold two very different moods side by side.
