A Bogotá city guide from CasaLatina founder Sharon Costi
Museums in La Candelaria, dinner at El Chato, rugs on Calle de los Anticuarios and two hotels, picked by a homeware founder.
Sharon Costi, the Venezuelan-born co-founder of the UK homeware label CasaLatina, first came to Bogotá 27 years ago for a friend's wedding and calls it "love at first sight". She started the brand in 2021 after a walk round the Expoartesanías craft fair, and now works with more than 60 artisans in Colombia and Venezuela, so her picks lean towards craft.
Her favourite quarter is La Candelaria, where Museo Botero, Museo del Oro and the Escuela de Artes y Oficios Santo Domingo, with students weaving and carving, sit a short walk apart. She'd finish at Plaza de Bolívar, then take the cable car up Monserrate for sunset. In Zona G she eats at Álvaro Clavijo's El Chato, ordering anything with heart of palm. For shopping, Calle de los Anticuarios in Chapinero has Verdi's fique rugs and tapestries, and the city is good for swimwear.
Further out are the Laguna de Guatavita, tied to the El Dorado legend, Friday nights at Andrés Carne de Res in Chía and Usaquén's weekend flea market. Livingetc adds two places to stay: the Click Clack Hotel near Parque de la 93, with a rooftop bar, and four-room Hotel Dios in La Candelaria.
Bogotá sits above 2,600 metres, so Costi says to pack a jacket.
