The Glasshouse
Afternoon tea is the business of this light-filled restaurant at Cromlix, the Murrays' Victorian country house near Dunblane, with warm focaccia sandwiches, freshly baked scones and Canton teas.
The story
The Glasshouse is one of several places to eat at Cromlix, a Victorian mansion and estate owned by Kim and Andy Murray in secluded Stirlingshire countryside at Kinbuck. Alongside fine dining at Cradle and long lunches in the Garden Room, it is the hotel's home for afternoon tea, set in a bright, glass-filled room. The ritual starts with a choice of fragrant Canton tea or Alfie's coffee. The kitchen then sends out focaccia sandwiches, still warm and layered with seasonal ingredients, cakes that lean fully into decadence, and golden, freshly baked scones meant for generous dollops of clotted cream and jam. A glass or two of bubbles can be added, and the kitchen handles all 14 legally recognised allergens daily.
Good to know
TAGGG AI- ✦Arrive a little early, as staff may suggest exploring the house first, including the chapel and the upstairs games room.
- ✦Park in the marked car park to the left of the main house and use the garden entrance.
- ✦The hotel sits at the end of a long, winding single-track road with passing places, so allow extra driving time.
