Cromlix
Owned by Kim and Andy Murray, Cromlix is a five-star Victorian mansion set in acres of secluded Stirlingshire countryside near Dunblane, with turret rooms, a 16-cover tasting-menu restaurant and afternoon tea in a glasshouse.
The story
The estate sits at Kinbuck, north of Stirling, and a recent refurbishment has refreshed the house. Rooms are individually designed and range from garden rooms to suites and fairytale turrets, plus a gate lodge and a new accessible suite. Treatments take place in the woodland retreat, and packages cater for children and for dogs, with woodland walks on the grounds. Dining runs across three spaces. Cradle is the intimate fine-dining room, seating just 16 for a seven-course tasting menu built around local ingredients, with optional wine pairings. The newly decorated Garden Room serves a more conventional à la carte menu and long lunches, while the Glasshouse hosts afternoon tea, including a gluten-free version. Breakfast stands out in its own right, with dishes such as crème brûlée porridge.
Good to know
TAGGG AI- ✦Allow three and a half to four hours for Cradle's seven-course tasting menu, served in a room of only 16 covers.
- ✦At breakfast, look out for the crème brûlée porridge, a standout on the morning menu.
- ✦A new accessible suite is available, and facials can be given in-room since the woodland retreat is not wheelchair accessible.
