Mereshi Safari Camp, an 18-suite tented camp, opening in the Serengeti
A Tanzanian-built safari camp near Fort Ikoma Gate, with acacia-inspired architecture and a focus on local jobs, due November 2026.
Mereshi Safari Camp is the second Serengeti camp from the Tanzanian hospitality company Delaware Investments, following Mapito Safari Camp, and it is built on the idea that tourism money should stay close to home. According to the press release, around 95% of the materials, furnishings and equipment were sourced and made in Tanzania, more than 150 Tanzanians worked on the build, and about 100 permanent jobs are expected, over 90% of them held by Tanzanians. At least five young women from a mentorship programme run with Hope for Girls and Women will live and train at the camp, with their costs covered.
Dunia Design, the team behind Mapito, took the acacia tree as its cue, combining timber, canvas and woven elements, and laid the camp out around the site's existing features to disturb as little ground as possible. There are 18 identical raised tented suites spread over 55 acres of open savannah, each 95 square metres split almost evenly between canvas interior and private timber deck, and all facing east for the sunrise. Inside you'll find dark greenwood furniture, open shelving, local textiles and large mesh panels framing the plains.
Days are planned around game drives, sundowners, fireside storytelling and Tanzanian music. The camp sits near the Fort Ikoma Gate and is part of Marriott's Autograph Collection. Opening is expected in November 2026, so confirm dates before planning. One for safari-goers who care where their money ends up.
