The Beatles Story Museum, Liverpool

Liverpool's original Beatles museum fills the Britannia Vaults at the Royal Albert Dock, following the band from their first meeting through the defining moments of their career, with recreated scenes of 1960s Liverpool.

The story

Hand-written lyrics, John Lennon's sunglasses and the notorious Yesterday and Today 'Butcher' cover are among the artefacts here. Displays run as a timeline, and some areas recreate the band's early haunts, including the Cavern, along with the mood of 1960s Liverpool. A free audio guide, available in 12 languages, adds interviews and voice clips from people who were part of The Beatles' lives, with optional extra tracks for those who want more. Entry also covers the Discovery Zone, where children explore the band's legacy through interactive activities and workshops. The Fab4 Store holds one of the largest collections of official Beatles merchandise in the world. The Fab4 Café sits under Cavern Club-style arches with nods to Abbey Road and Revolver, plays Beatles songs and serves cappuccinos topped with a Beatle face.
