934 SP57, a minimalist four-storey family townhouse in Sabadell, Spain
Barcelona studio Exitprojectes reworks the traditional urban terrace on a double-width plot, with oak, microcement, a pool and stacked terraces.
The name sounds like a filing code, but 934 SP57 is a family house in Sabadell by the Barcelona studio Exitprojectes. It takes the traditional urban terrace and stretches it across a plot twice the width of its neighbours, stacking four levels so there is room for a pool and outdoor dining at the back, right in town, with terraces on the floors above.
From the street, a dark rendered ground floor gives way to white upper storeys, cut through by a fluted vertical recess that lights the bathrooms and hints at Art Deco without copying it. The rear is whiter and more abstract, stepping back as it climbs. Inside, lightly textured microcement walls meet dark-stained oak joinery and natural oak floors, with wardrobes and kitchen units treated as part of the architecture. Even the three-car garage gets moody lighting.
The plan was worked out closely with the clients: a study, double-height sitting room and kitchen run front to back on the first floor, bedrooms and a gym sit around a gallery above, and the main suite with its balcony crowns the top floor, all tied together by a top-lit staircase. The architects call it a home built around everyday rituals. It is a private house, so this one is for the photographs and for anyone thinking about how a townhouse can live.
