A Chelsea bistro with art on the walls
The Sloane Club is opening a public-facing all-day bistro beside its members’ club in Chelsea.
The Sloane Club is preparing to open Bistro 1922, an all-day neighbourhood bistro in Chelsea that will sit next to its private members’ club with rooms but, importantly, be open to the public. It takes its name from 1922, the year the club was founded by Princess Helena as the Ex-Service Women’s Club, a meeting place for women returning from the First World War. That backstory gives the project a little more shape than a standard hotel-restaurant launch.
The food will lean British, led by executive head chef George Scott-Toft with director of food and beverage Gordy McIntyre. The team says it is building relationships with local producers and suppliers including Rockfish, Cultjar, HG Walter and Curing Rebels, which suggests a menu grounded in familiar ingredients rather than something showy. Inside, the room will also work as a rotating gallery in partnership with Chelsea specialist Hommage, with original posters and lithographs by names including Pablo Picasso, Raoul Dufy and Damien Hirst changing through the year.
This follows Café 1922, the club’s first public-facing venture, and marks a bigger step into the neighbourhood. There is no opening date in the piece yet, but it is one to keep an eye on if you like your Chelsea addresses with a bit of local history and something to look at between courses.
