Valencia-based Fran Silvestre Arquitectos began this Ibiza villa with one question: could the house be a single element laid on the hillside? The answer is Bellavista 11, where a white concrete plane only 15 centimetres thick folds and steps down the slope towards the sea. It is the first of six homes in The Roca Views development at Roca Lisa, on the island's eastern coast, and all of them are meant as a modern reading of Ibiza's traditional white-walled buildings.

The house runs through three low volumes. A garage and access stair sit at the top, the open-plan living, dining and kitchen space with its swimming pool sits in the middle, and a five-bedroom block finishes things off at the bottom. As the plane descends, it becomes roof terraces over the lower two volumes, then floors and a series of lower terraces. Full-height sliding glass doors on hidden tracks open each room onto the view.

Inside, it is white walls, pale stone floors and timber joinery. Silvestre told Dezeen he thinks of light as almost another material, and of the design as an "evolved tradition" of Mediterranean shade and plain materials.

It is a private home, so this one is for reading rather than visiting. It is worth a look for anyone drawn to pared-back island architecture.
