Dezeen readers' five favourite houses of October 2026
A pink postmodern London pair, a wardrobe-like Czech kids' house and hillside villas in Ibiza and above Lake Zurich.
Dezeen's monthly round-up of the houses its readers clicked on most is a good snapshot of where residential design is heading, and October's five range from a modest bungalow rework to two very grand villas.
The most cheerful is Cloud House in north London, where architect Peter Morris let his love of postmodernism loose on a pink pair of homes, one for himself and his wife, one for a like-minded neighbour. He hoped it might give passers-by "a little moment of joy". In the Czech Republic, Šépka Architekti built Wardrobe House in a family's garden so two teenagers could have their own space; it looks like a wooden wardrobe and was prefabricated as a kit, much like flat-pack furniture.
At the luxurious end, Fran Silvestre Arquitectos' Bellavista 11 steps down a hillside on Ibiza's east coast in three low white concrete volumes, while Think Architecture's House on a Slope above Lake Zurich links its two halves with an underground corridor. Back in England, Loader Monteith turned a two-bed bungalow in Prestwich into a four-bed home, which the studio called "squeezing a quart into a pint pot".
All five are private homes, so this is one for reading rather than visiting, and a handy list of studios to follow.
