Hamish Powell is the London floral artist behind work for Hermès and Loewe, and behind Charli XCX's much-shared wedding bouquet. This autumn he styled the shoot for the online homeware shop ABASK's first lighting collection, and this week he took the idea to New York's Salon Art + Design fair. Livingetc describes it as the first showing of one of his breathing installations in the US.

On ABASK's stand, lamps from 13 of the collection's 20 makers sit in a cloud of 1,500 reused corn husks, flowers and sculptural greenery. Look for Yuxuan Huang's hand-painted butterfly lamps, Helle Mardahl's colourful glass blobs and Kickie Chudikova's Murano glass Pulpopolis pieces, which look a little like octopuses and a little like spaceships. Powell lets the plants fade under the lights on purpose. He is drawn to materials with a life "beyond their point of perfection".

He also has practical thoughts on styling flowers around a lamp. You are making two arrangements, he says, one for when it's off and one for when it's on. Reds can turn almost black under warm light, while yellows and oranges glow.

The collection is on sale now. The article doesn't give the fair's dates, so check before you go. It's one for anyone who likes their design a little wild.
