On the shore of Zishan Lake in Xianning, Hubei Province, the Chinese studio Büro Ziyu Zhuang (BUZZ) has set four public buildings into a meadow, across the water from the guest houses of the Ziyouji resort. The idea is that there's no set route: you wander between them over slopes, lawns and paths, and reach the art from any side of the park.

The centrepiece is the Zi Museum, a layered, many-faceted building in pale concrete arranged around a courtyard. It has three entrances at different levels, galleries, and a garden restaurant. The studio calls the interior an "open labyrinth", meant to feel like wandering a Chinese garden. Those who've come just for the view can skip the galleries and walk a ramp straight up to the roof.

Beside it stands a "meditation tower", its stairs spiralling around a hollow core and down to a sunken courtyard wrapped in metal mesh. A rammed-earth workshop has its own ramp up to a grassed roof, and a bookshop with a deep overhanging roof steps down towards the lake behind a glass front.

The article doesn't give opening hours or ticket details, so check before you go. It's a good one for architecture lovers, and an easy pairing with a stay across the lake.
