Austin studio STG Design has released renderings of O27, a 32-storey office tower planned for Houston's River Oaks, a neighbourhood known for its historic estates and luxury shopping. The developers, Broadview Capital, say the idea grew from founders Anish and Ashay Bavishi's admiration for the city's Williams Tower by Philip Johnson and John Burgee.

Instead of a straight shaft, the tower rises in a wave. Two curving glass facades fold around either side, split down the middle by a spine of terraces running up its height. The skin is made of triangular glass panels meant to shimmer and shift as the light changes. The team describe a form that resists the "rigid verticality" of most office buildings, though a computational design process kept the floorplates efficient and repeatable.

A nine-storey base holds a parking garage, luxury amenities and a rooftop terrace. Design ALT + TAB handled the arrival: an entrance drive under a sculpted, light-studded ceiling meant to suggest a night sky, and a double-height glass lobby. Interior renders show metallic bronze surfaces, black-and-white marble and curved seating.

These are renders only, with completion expected in 2028. Worth knowing if you follow Houston's skyline, and a reason to look up Williams Tower in the meantime.
