Lilli, a 53-storey residential skyscraper by AS+GG planned for Miami
The Jeddah Tower architects unveil a slender, round-edged glass tower for a narrow waterfront site in Miami's Edgewater neighbourhood.
Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the Chicago-born studio behind some of the world's tallest buildings, including the upcoming Jeddah Tower, has turned its attention back to Miami. Its latest project there is Lilli, a residential skyscraper planned for a narrow plot on the Edgewater waterfront, rising 193 metres (636 feet) over 53 storeys.
The look is soft rather than sharp: rounded edges, long runs of glass broken by bands of metallic floor plates, terraces on the side facing the water and larger patios climbing the opposite face. Design partner Juan Betancur says the aim is for the interiors to feel inseparable from the architecture, with a restrained palette of natural materials letting light and views of Biscayne Bay do much of the work. He sums up the mood as "quiet refinement".
Inside will be 117 homes of different sizes, plus lounges, pools and spas. Residents enter through a lobby of large metallic columns and minimal detailing, and at the very top a pool sits at the edge of a terrace beneath a reflective metal bulkhead that echoes the facade.
These are renderings of a private luxury development, so there is nothing to visit yet. It is one to note for anyone following Miami's steady stream of new waterfront towers.
