Tim Van Laere Gallery
Founded by Tim Van Laere in 1997, this contemporary art gallery in Antwerp's new Nieuw Zuid district shows established international and emerging artists in a modern building with high ceilings and plenty of natural light.
The story
Tim Van Laere calls his space an artist gallery, built on close and direct contact with the people it represents, and the programme now runs between Antwerp and a second space in Rome. The Antwerp gallery sits among the new apartment blocks and taller buildings of Nieuw Zuid, a district still taking shape. The building is large for a private gallery, and its high ceilings and natural light let it handle work of monumental scale. Rinus Van de Velde has filled it with large drawings, painted cardboard decors, a whole house made of cardboard and a submarine model. Marcel Dzama has also shown here, and Jonathan Meese has appeared in person. Exhibitions change regularly, so each visit brings something new.
