PAC Padiglione d'Arte Contemporanea

Across from the Giardini Pubblici Indro Montanelli, this modernist pavilion stages rotating contemporary art exhibitions under large panoramic windows, with a long upstairs gallery and a programme of shows going back to 1979.

The story

PAC sits on Via Palestro beside Villa Reale, home of the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, in central Milan yet a little apart from the crowded areas. Its programme is built on temporary exhibitions by artists from many countries, and a digital archive documents every show since 1979. Recent years have brought Superstudio and the radical design movement, a lifetime survey of Anna Maria Maiolino, a selection of Argentinian artists and Marcello Maloberti's METAL PANIC, which spread across the building's indoor and outdoor spaces. Smaller Project Room shows run alongside the main exhibitions, with Sheila Hicks and Doris Salcedo among the artists scheduled. Families can join a digital lab of playful, hands-on art activities, and some evenings turn into late-night live sets with Le Cannibale. Afterwards, the public gardens across the road make an easy continuation.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Exhibitions rotate and the experience shifts considerably with each show, so check what is on before planning a visit.
  • The galleries are compact and rarely crowded, making for a calm, less touristy visit than Milan's busier museums.
  • It is easy to reach by metro and pairs well with the Galleria d'Arte Moderna and the gardens next door.
