Museum Würth 2

David Chipperfield Architects designed this 2020 gallery inside the Carmen Würth Forum, where rotating highlights from the Würth Collection's late 19th, 20th and 21st century holdings fill large, purpose-built halls.

The story

The museum realises collector and entrepreneur Reinhold Würth's wish for a place to show changing highlights from his collection. Set on the grounds of the Würth industrial complex outside Künzelsau, it shares the forum with the Würth Sculpture Garden right next door, and the original Museum Würth is about ten minutes away on foot. Recent programming has included FOCUS, a fresh look at the collection; a show on the geometric work of François Morellet marking his 100th birthday; and Stella Hamberg, winner of the 16th Robert Jacobsen Prize. Past shows, such as one on Emil Nolde, have come with a film screened in the museum's cinema. Café Atrium serves coffee, tea, cake and snacks, with an outdoor terrace in warm weather, and a shop stocks catalogues, art books, posters and design pieces.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Pick up a map near the main entrance to find the outdoor sculptures; hunting for each one keeps children entertained.
  • Combine the visit with the nearby Museum Würth; seeing both takes around two hours at most.
  • The café is a comfortable spot to sit and talk over the exhibition once you have finished.
