CARMEN WÜRTH FORUM
Reinhold Würth built this congress and culture centre in Künzelsau as a memorial to his wife Carmen, opening it on her 80th birthday in 2017. Sir David Chipperfield's office designed its clear, modern lines.
The story
The idea came to Reinhold Würth while abroad, and the first sketch was drawn on a hotel napkin. A 2005 architecture competition shortlisted six designs, and Sir David Chipperfield's British office won. The centre opened on 18 July 2017 in the presence of Winfried Kretschmann and Chipperfield, and it received the Hugo Häring award that same year. The Würth Philharmoniker, the company's own orchestra, was also introduced to the public that July. Inside are the Great Hall, the Reinhold Würth Hall, a conference area and outdoor spaces set into the Hohenlohe landscape. A second phase in 2020 added more conference rooms and Museum Würth 2, where about 1,000 square metres hold the modern and contemporary part of the Würth Collection. Sculpture outside completes the visit.
