Good Times General Store
Potato Head's first dedicated retail space, designed with OMA, pairs its own apparel and homewares with Indonesian craft, and gives over part of the floor to natural-dye and recycled-plastic workshops.
The story
Rammed-earth walls and roofing thatch reworked as an exterior skin give this store, between the Desa Potato Head hotel and its beach club in Seminyak, what OMA calls a contemporary-traditional look. Inside, the rectangular building is split into five linear bays. The first three hold work by independent makers from Indonesia and beyond, Potato Head's in-house apparel, and Wasted, a furniture and homeware line made from discarded materials with British designer Max Lamb. The last two bays are for making: a natural-dye studio using food and plant waste, and a workshop for experimenting with recycled plastic gathered by waste-pickers across Bali and Java. The Seeds of Life collection is dyed with mangrove bark, jolawe nuts and tunjung, with motifs drawn from Aksara Bali and the Javanese Parang pattern.
