Cine Tutu

Billed as Vila Madalena's first cinema, Cine Tutu is a street cinema on Rua Girassol pairing new auteur releases with classics like Kurosawa's Ran, plus a bar and roomy loveseat sofas up front.

The story

The programme leans toward international and Brazilian auteur cinema. Recent work by Alejandro G. Iñárritu and Karim Aïnouz plays alongside repertory titles such as Kurosawa's Ran and Chantal Akerman's The Captive. A run of festival-season premieres from Palestine, Mexico, Canada and beyond rounds out the schedule. The cinema opened with a screening of Iñárritu's Digger. At the entrance, a counter sells popcorn, snacks and drinks, and there is also a restaurant. Downstairs, a hall furnished with armchairs leads into the screening room, which has strong acoustics, a good-sized screen and comfortable seating. The first two rows are spacious sofa-style loveseats, and the rest are individual seats.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Aim for the first two rows, which have roomy sofa-style loveseats instead of individual seats.
  • The snack and drinks counter at the entrance gets crowded just before showtimes, so order early.
  • Besides popcorn and drinks, there is a restaurant on site to pair with a film.
