Cocktail bar

Barouche
Café, bar and bookshop at once, this Vila Madalena outpost of Barouche pours signature cocktails by Danilo Nakamura and Renan Scussel, led by a much-ordered açaí drink, alongside inventive small plates from chef Rodrigo Felício.
The story
Barouche started out at Largo do Arouche before settling in Vila Madalena, with a second outpost at Cinesala in Pinheiros. Here it shares its address with the Cine Tutu cinema, filling the ground floor of a residential building beside Pasta Shihoma and across from Lobozó, with seating both inside and out. Books for sale share the room with the bar and coffee counter. The drinks list runs from the açaí cocktail to the mate-tea-based Bafo da Onça, the Ringo Highball and the Tre Carabinieri. The kitchen is tiny, yet Rodrigo Felício turns out beef carpaccio, olives in oil, escabeche, a goat's cheese salad and a lamb sandwich on crisp ciabatta, finishing with caramelised brioche and Pinguina ice cream. Mornings bring coffee, iced chocolate with orange zest and yogurt with blueberries.

- ✦The room gets lively and can be noisy, so it is not ideal if you only want to sit and read.
- ✦Getting there by car is easy enough, but finding a parking space nearby can be difficult.
