Oyster Estate brings a North Fork welcome to Greenport
A 34-room boutique hotel inspired by Long Island's old bay houses.
Greenport, on the North Fork of Long Island, has a new place to stay. Oyster Estate opened on 1 September in the former Greenporter Hotel, close to the village's working waterfront and a short drive from the area's vineyards and farms. Blue Flag Capital and Collared Martin Hospitality have transformed it into a 34-room boutique hotel.
Blue Flag designed it with Islyn Studio, taking inspiration from the old bay houses along the coast. Wood is everywhere, from furniture to built-ins, and the colours come from the shoreline: clay, weathered green and pale stone. Local touches are the loveliest part. Flowers gathered around Greenport have been dried and pressed into the lobby tiles, a hay plaster ceiling nods to the salt marshes, and ceramics come from a local maker.
Instead of one big lobby, there's a series of rooms with group seating and quiet corners, filled with books and plants. Days centre on the courtyard, patio and outdoor pool. Rooms have Parachute linens and robes, Salt & Stone bath products, Tivoli speakers, Fellow kettles and free coffee and tea.
In the evening, things move to Fortune Favors, a moody, colourful cocktail bar and restaurant serving Asian-inspired plates with local ingredients. It even has a listening room with vinyl and a sound system designed for the space.
