Wool is a lovely thing to have underfoot. It's soft and hard-wearing, it handles moisture and allergies well, and with care it gains character as it ages. Architectural Digest's editors have spent years living with wool rugs, from flatweaves to shaggy Beni Ourain, and this guide gathers the ones they'd recommend.

For a traditional look on a budget, shopping editor Audrey Lee likes Quince's Artemis, a hand-knotted rug under $250 whose soft blues and yellows warm a room without taking over. Nashia Baker chose Revival's Helen in a ruby colourway for her Brooklyn flat; it's New Zealand wool, stain resistant and, unusually, machine washable, though she admits it isn't cheap.

Lulu and Georgia's fringed Heritage comes in a moss grey that sits between green and stone. It's contract grade, which suits a hallway or dining room that takes a lot of traffic. All Modern's Mallory is the bold choice, a chunky geometric in rust or deep green, though reviewers warn it sheds at first. And for a calm neutral, visuals editor Lizzie Soufleris recommends Castlery's plush, handmade Cora.

This is a shopping guide rather than a place story, and it was first published in November 2025. It's here because it was among AD's latest posts on the day we collected them.
