Westwood Golf Yakima
A 47-acre former apple and pear orchard in Yakima's West Valley now holds a locally owned, USGA-rated 9-hole course, a two-level driving range and the Woodies restaurant and bar.
The story
Robert Schultz opened Westwood in 1965, prompted by a comical suggestion from Bill Gammie, who packed fruit from the orchard that then covered the land. The nine holes are more than a short-game exercise: several give room to pull out a driver, there is a par 5, and the course is easy to walk, with houses and apartments around most of it. A new clubhouse brought a two-level Inrange driving range, where bays support data-driven practice, social games with friends and multi-bay group events. The lower level is heated and the upper one has TVs. Woodies, the attached restaurant and bar, serves the Big Woodie burger with fries, a wedge salad and a barbecue chicken sandwich alongside beer and cocktails, and it draws non-golfers and families as much as players.
