The Sanctuary

A quiet Christian cafe in Cooke Town where coffee and cake downstairs lead up to a gift shop, a music room, a small library, a chapel and a rooftop terrace.

The story

The ground floor is a small cafe with Bible verses and posters on the walls, plus a table outside among plants. Upstairs there is a gift shop for souvenirs, a room with a keyboard for playing music, a compact but well-stocked library, a chapel and a terrace where birds can be heard. The mood stays hushed. Even when the room fills, people tend to keep their voices low, which makes it a good spot for reading, conversation or working. The kitchen keeps things simple and homely. Coffee is the mainstay, with cafe mocha, hot chocolate and cold coffee alongside rich chocolate cake, plain banana cake, brownies, quiche, puffs and cutlets. Breakfast brings chicken sausages, French toast and pancakes, and there is a dedicated Sunday breakfast menu.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • Order the rich chocolate cake with a cafe mocha, or try the hot chocolate and cold coffee.
  • Head upstairs for the library and rooftop terrace, a calmer place to read than the compact ground floor.
  • Come for breakfast, especially on Sundays, when there is a separate breakfast menu; French toast and pancakes are on offer.
