The story

The Cottage in the Wood sits on the slopes of the Malvern Hills, where you can step straight out onto nine miles of ridge rising from the flats of the Severn Valley. Head Chef Rob Mason and his team cook from the Worcestershire larder, and the menus change with the seasons. The food is split between two rooms. The Brasserie keeps things relaxed with small plates, Cottage classics and desserts. 1919, Malvern's only 3AA Rosette restaurant, serves a seven-course tasting menu. Cocktails are served on the covered Terrace, and dinner can also be taken in the Lounge bar. The day runs from breakfast through afternoon tea to evening meals, and it is open to locals as well as hotel guests.

TAGGG AI
  • Ask for a window table or sit outside on a clear day to make the most of the views over the hills.
  • Afternoon tea comes with cream and jam, and it is worth booking ahead for a birthday or other special treat.
  • Portions can be bigger than expected; baked cod, lamb shoulder, baked peaches and mille-feuille are standouts.
