Taksim Sanat Galerisi

A small exhibition space near Taksim's Republic Monument, given over to the founding of the Republic of Türkiye and the life of Atatürk, told through sections packed with images.

The story

Taksim Sanat Galerisi tells the story of how the modern Turkish Republic was formed and of its founder, Atatürk. The exhibition is arranged in sections, each taking on one field of achievement of the young republic and illustrating it with a large number of visuals. A strand on Taksim's own recent history ties the displays to the neighbourhood around it. It is a compact place, and a visit does not take long, which makes it easy to fit into a walk past the nearby Republic Monument. The rooms tend to be quiet, rarely holding more than a handful of people at once, and the illustrated displays are pitched to hold children's attention as well as adults'. Its tone is openly patriotic, aimed squarely at anyone with an interest in the Republic and its beginnings.
