The story
stieg'nhaus opened in summer 2025 in the village of Mühlbach am Hochkönig, in Salzburg's mountain country. Owners Tom and Maria have fitted out just six suites with carefully chosen, high-quality materials and a minimalist eye. Each suite has a freestanding bath and king-size bed; the larger circular suite adds a private sauna, and the pergola suite pairs a sauna facing the Hochkönig with a whirlpool on its terrace. The kitchen holds three Gault&Millau toques, with chefs from Spain and Italy cooking from breakfast through dinner, served in the restaurant, on the terrace or in the suite. Massages and facial treatments round out the stay. Outside, the Hochkönig ski region's 120 kilometres of slopes link Mühlbach with Maria Alm and Dienten, and summer brings hiking on the same mountains.
