St Pancras International

Eurostar trains to Paris, Brussels and Amsterdam leave from beneath the soaring glass roof and Victorian ironwork of this London terminus, which doubles as a place to eat, shop and hear commuters play its public pianos.

The story

With its vintage brickwork, great arches and Victorian ironwork, St Pancras International pairs heritage architecture with modern amenities. It is London's gateway to high-speed travel across the UK and Europe, served by Eurostar, Southeastern, Thameslink and East Midlands Railway, and has more Underground connections than any other London station. Trains run from here to London Luton Airport, Kent and the Continent. Restaurants, cafés, bars and shops spread across both levels of the station, from Fortnum and Mason to Blank Street, and the St. Pancras Bar & Brasserie serves champagne to travellers setting off on holiday. Public pianos on the concourse draw passing musicians, and each Christmas the station puts up a tree. On a wet afternoon, the sound of rain on the glass roof is part of the experience.

Good to know

TAGGG AI
  • The Eurostar departure area is fairly small, with duty free and a few cafés, so you need less waiting time than at an airport.
  • Passages to the Underground can get crowded, so walk fully through doorways before stopping to look for signs.
  • The public pianos on the concourse are often played by talented commuters, which makes waiting for a train more pleasant.
