Sessions Arts Club

Candlelit tables fill the old judges' dining room of Sessions House, a Grade II* listed building in Clerkenwell, where a short, regularly changing Modern European menu meets a carefully chosen wine list.

The story

A lift carries diners up to the dining room, where soaring ceilings, washed walls and modern art set against the ageing plaster give the space the feel of an antique artist's studio. Dimmed lights and plenty of candles keep the mood romantic, which makes it a regular choice for dates, birthdays and wedding celebrations. The kitchen cooks British-leaning dishes with twists, built on seasonal ingredients and sauces worth mopping up with bread. Plates have included tuna with honeycomb tomato, langoustine risotto, lamb with anchovy, duck pâté and an almond granita. Wine is taken seriously: the Lost Wines series revives bottles rescued from forgotten cellars, and there are thoughtful non-alcoholic options too. On Sundays a roast is served at lunch, and the whole room can be hired for private lunches, dinners and receptions.
