Royale Belge

A former insurance headquarters from 1970 in Watermael-Boitsfort, Royale Belge has been reworked into a mix of restaurants, co-working space, a gym with pools and a hotel, keeping its functionalist architecture.

The story

Built in 1970 as a temple of the insurance trade, this functionalist building is one of the landmarks of Brussels heritage. In the early 2020s the architects Bovenbouw transformed it, setting new spaces against the original architecture rather than erasing it, and part of the building has recently opened to the public. Inside are an auditorium, meeting rooms, co-working space, three restaurants serving dishes from around the world, a gym with indoor and outdoor pools, and Hotel Mix. Several companies also have offices here. The public areas make it a place to wander the interiors, take in the view, settle in with a laptop or stop for a drink.
