Rahmi M. Koç Museum
An industrial museum on the Golden Horn in Hasköy, filling restored Ottoman workshops and a former shipyard with classic cars, trains, aircraft, boats and a submarine, many of which you can climb inside.
The story
The collection occupies the Lengerhane, an Ottoman foundry that made anchors and chains, and across Hasköy Caddesi the former Hasköy Shipyard, which once repaired the ferries that carried Istanbul along the Bosphorus. Founded by Rahmi M. Koç, it spreads across indoor galleries, yards and a quay on the water. Exhibits run from horse-drawn carriages and rowing boats to steam and turbine engines. Highlights include a restored FIAT rail bus, a passenger ferry, an Amphicar, the flying car from Chamber of Secrets and a WW2 bomber wreck recovered from the sea. Motorised cut-away engines and a hand-cranked Wankel engine with transparent sides show how the machines work, while other rooms cover scientific instruments, communication devices, woodworking, olive oil production and old toys.

- ✦Tickets can be bought at the door, and the site is a little out of the way, so a taxi is easiest.
- ✦Halat and Suzy's Cafe Du Levant serve full meals, and smaller cafés and kiosks sit around the grounds.
