The story

Also known as To Kafeneio 1987, the restaurant has the simple look of a French bistro. It has warm wood, classic wall sconces, and walls covered with photographs, paintings and sketches by a well-known local artist. New owners have revamped it while keeping the classic recipes and the old decor. The dining room still draws mostly people from the surrounding neighbourhood, some of whom have been coming for decades. The kitchen sticks to traditional Greek home cooking. Ntolmadakia are the signature, alongside lahanodolmades, biftekakia, beef with orzo and a pie of the day. Lighter plates include charcoal-grilled beets, lightly fried zucchini fritters and a cabbage, carrot and parsley salad. Meals often end with baklava or yogurt à la crème, and staff are happy to share stories about where the dishes come from.
